Modern Warfare 3 player proves aim assist hasn't changed in a decade

A Modern Warfare 3 player has managed to prove that aim assist characteristics haven't changed in over a decade.

With Season 2 in full swing and players continuing to load into a map that's become an 'instant classic,' the debate between those who use a controller and those who prefer a mouse and keyboard continues to roll on. So controller players can compete against the more precise aim of a mouse, aim assist attempts to level the playing field.

Call of Duty developers often adjust various elements of aim assist to ensure some kind of balance. However, one fan has managed to prove nothing has changed in the past ten years.

To demonstrate, user No_Bar6825 took to Reddit with footage of a video showcasing the power of aim assist from 2011's Modern Warfare 3.

"This video shows that you had left stick aim back then too," says the player. "This guy isn't even touching the right stick lol."

With the video showing the immense power of aim assist from over a decade ago, some players believe there are other factors why the aim assist debate has continued to escalate. One fan thinks: "The difference between now and then is we now have highly annoying content creators stirring the pot just to get clicks about something that's always been in the game.

Another adds: "Back in the day there was no crossplay, so if you played on a console, it was controller versus controller. Now that there's crossplay, you have MnK (mouse and keyboard) versus controller and that's where the disagreements come from."

Sledgehammer Games is no stranger to adjusting Modern Warfare 3's aiming mechanics. The Season 2 update reduced idle sway, enabling greater levels of precision with a mouse and keyboard.

There are no signs of the controller versus mouse and keyboard debate slowing down. Each input has its own set of pros and cons and despite the best efforts to balance them, many believe controllers continue to have the upper hand thanks to the extra assistance.
