Breakdown

  • Hunt: Showdown will soon cut support for the PS4 and Xbox One, taking the game away from millions
  • Crytek will be upgrading the game to a new engine, which will come with a myriad of changes
  • Fans on PS4 and Xbox One can upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series for free, but fans wish they still had the last-gen servers

Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown is about to be ripped away from a potential audience of millions, as the game will now primarily focus on current-gen systems. It’s an unfortunate reality that many fans saw coming, as current-gen consoles are now easier to obtain and more gamers are getting their hands on them.

The developer announced that on August 15, those with a PS4 and Xbox One can no longer play this shooter, as the game upgrades to CRYENGINE 5.11. Support for these versions stopped last April but fans were able to still play the game on these systems, but that’s about to end.

Luckily, those who enjoy Hunt: Showdown will be able to upgrade for free on PS5 and Xbox Series, as soon as they can get these consoles. It’s a good gesture from the company, though Crytek removing support for the last-gen versions still feels like a low blow. Fans would have liked it if Crytek kept these servers online, but the upgrade to a new engine makes that impossible.

At the least, fans have time to save up for a PS5 or Xbox Series console and all of their progress will be fine. Crytek has assured fans that their game progress and any DLC they purchased will still be there once they make the free upgrade. Fans would still prefer it if the PS4 and Xbox One servers were kept up, but this is definitely better than nothing.

Crytek is going to be busy, as the company doesn’t just have to support Hunt: Showdown, but they’re also working on Crysis 4. It seems that the developer has moved on from last-gen systems and are only looking towards the future from here on out. The devs will reveal more details on the current-gen port before its release on August 15.

Hunt: Showdown is now available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. Fans who still have the PS4 and Xbox One versions should probably save up their successor systems.
