PlayStation Studios may have laid off 8% of its workforce across all its companies, but they have not canceled the rumoured Horizon multiplayer game from Guerrilla. With other studios canceling games to save money, despite plenty of work being done, this is a small victory for Guerrilla Games.

After numerous games were canceled as part of these layoffs, Bloomberg reported Jason Schreier was asked on Twitter (via VGC) if the Horizon multiplayer game was part of it. To the surprise of many, Schreier said that the game wasn’t canceled, getting the hopes up of many who wanted to play this.

While it would be easy to assume that Sony wouldn’t cancel a big-name game, the company did axe a Twister Metal live-service game. Granted, Twisted Metal hasn’t been a big game name in a while but there is a popular show based on the license, so it would have been a relevant game.

Guerilla Games confirmed that they were working on a Horizon multiplayer game back in 2022, though no official name for it has been revealed. It would have been fairly easy for Sony to cancel this and save some money, showing that they see some potential in the game. The franchise has been a primarily single-player one, so a multiplayer version is going to be a very interesting experience.

Other games weren’t as lucky, with EA canceling a Star Wars first-person shooter from acclaimed developer Respawn Entertainment after laying off some employees. Embracer Studio also canceled several games in development, including new entries in the Deus Ex and Timesplitters franchises. Hopefully, this Horizon multiplayer game will be worth the effort, as we have only ever experienced well-made single-player games in this acclaimed franchise.

Beyond the Horizon multiplayer games, the company is also working on a PC port for Horizon Forbidden West, which is coming out later this month. The game is also readily available on PS4 and PS5 if you’re too impatient for a PC port.
