The new Halo Season 2 trailer shows a seemingly much improved TV show over its first season. In a new interview, Master Chief actor Pablo Schreiber revealed that he was not a fan of the show giving the iconic video game character a romantic relationship.

In Halo Season 1, Master Chief loses his virginity on screen with the character Makee. Not only is this out of character for the stoic super soldier, but Makee’s status as a Prisoner of War makes the situation even more uncomfortable.

The show doesn’t specifically show Master Chief and Makee boning down, but it’s very clear what’s occurred. To make the situation even weirder, AI companion Cortana watches the events take place and even appears jealous.

Speaking to SFX Magazine, Schreiber called the sex scene a “huge mistake”. The actor revealed that he even fought against the decision to include the events with the show’s previous showrunner, but the scenes were filmed and released anyway.

“The decision to make the connection between Makee and John a romantic connection was a huge mistake," the actor explained. “I felt it was a huge mistake at the time and I argued against it and fought against it. But I am who I am. I don’t write the scripts. I only give my opinion. It wasn’t listened to."

Halo Season 2 aims to improve massively on the tone and accuracy of the series to its video game counterpart. Adapting the 2001 prequel novel The Fall of Reach, the new TV season will end with the arrival to the titular Halo, kicking off an adaptation of the original video game trilogy.

Halo Season 2 releases on Paramount Plus on February 8. The second season consists of just ten episodes releasing weekly on the streaming service.
