The in-development Halo Infinite sequel will be available on Xbox, PC, PlayStation and even Nintendo Switch, according to a recent job listing for the game.
With major Xbox exclusives including Indiana Jones and Starfield making their way to PS5, it seems that the days of Xbox-only games are over. This includes the brand’s biggest franchise, the one that started the system’s 20-year career: Halo.
A recent job listing for a Lead Systems Game Designer at 343 Industries reveals plans to bring the upcoming Halo Infinite sequel to more than just Xbox and PC. Under the “responsibilities” part of the job description, it’s revealed that the next Halo game will be available on “all platforms”.
“[You must be able to] set clear design goals and deliverables, focusing the systems design team on achieving a high-quality, cohesive experience for all players, on all platforms,” reads the job description.
The new job listing also reveals other important development secrets of the next Halo title, namely the abandonment of Halo Infinite’s Slipspace Engine for Unreal Engine 5. In the “additional or preferred qualifications space”, it’s claimed that candidates should have “experience working with Unreal Engine tools”.
Halo Infinite launched in a rough state for Xbox, missing the launch of the Xbox Series X and S by almost a year. However, with the release of Halo Infinite Season 5, the free-to-play multiplayer game is finally in a great place, and is genuinely one of the best free to play shooters on the market.
However, with Xbox seemingly becoming a third-party publisher, Halo is no longer the flagship title for its own hardware. Instead, the blockbuster series that founded Xbox will be available anywhere, at least if the company’s unreleased plans go ahead.
With this in mind, Xbox fans have expressed their anger at the Microsoft company, wondering what the point of owning an Xbox console is anymore. Is it just a Game Pass machine? Then why not just own a PC? Hopefully, Xbox will answer fans’ questions very soon.
Halo Infinite is currently available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC.
