Breakdown

  • Troy Baker confirms that he's not in GTA 6
  • Baker hopes that the actual VA gets a ton of credit
  • The Last of Us actor appreciates fans for associating good work with him

When the first GTA 6 trailer was revealed, the male protagonist only had one line, which led fans to wonder who voiced him. Many came to the conclusion that it was renowned voice actor Troy Baker, but he outright denied it, so the guessing game continues.

Speaking with The Movie Dweeb (via GamesRadar), Baker was asked if the fan theories were true and if he is voicing the character. As written above, Baker has confirmed that he is not voicing this male protagonist. Baker also tells fans not to assume who voices a role after only one line, especially since he wasn't even the focus.

"That right there is a lesson in perception. So, people think and they just automatically assume. I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work, because I'm sure it's going to be great,” Baker said. "And I know many people who worked for Rockstar, Roger Clark, Ned Luke included, that, you know, that's a grind, man. Those guys pour themselves into those characters, and they deserve all of the credit for their work, not me."

Baker does appreciate the fact that GTA 6 fans thought it was him, because it was a good voice and he’s often praised for his performances. Luckily, Baker is really popular in the video game space, so just because he isn’t voicing this character doesn’t mean the actor is going to be out of work.

Even if he won’t be in Rockstar’s next open-world masterpiece, Baker is still involved in a lot of major gaming projects. It was recently announced that Troy Baker would be voicing Indiana Jones for the upcoming Xbox exclusive, which is nothing to sneeze at. Despite the game using Harrison Ford’s face, you’re going to hear Baker speaking as this iconic movie hero.

GTA 6 currently has no release date, though Rockstar Games did say that it would be coming out sometime in 2025. Currently, the game is only scheduled for a PS5 and Xbox Series release, with a PC version likely coming out later.
