Britain’s iconic adventures through time and space are not coming to Fortnite after all. After over a year of rumours, British TV empire The BBC has officially denied reports of a Doctor Who Fortnite event.

Following comments from Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, fans of the series were told that the alleged Fortnite crossover was a “myth”. This is despite evidence in Fortnite’s files that a Doctor Who crossover was in the works at some point.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a BBC spokesperson confirmed that no such crossover has been approved by the broadcasting company. While the company didn’t shut down the possibility of future collaboration, there is nothing currently in the works.

“We have nothing in current development in Fortnite," a BBC spokesperson told the outlet.

The long-rumoured Doctor Who Fortnite event was reported to include both David Tenant’s 14th Doctor as well as Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor. While the thought of these usually peaceful characters blasting a Fortnite Master Chief or Spider-Man with an assault rifle is quite discomforting, a lot of fans were excited by the possibility of a crossover.

After all, the Doctor Who franchise does have a long history with video games, but many of them have been underwhelming or even bad. (Anyone remember Doctor Who: Return to Earth? Yuck.)

While the full Doctor Who Fortnite crossover isn’t happening, the series does have some representation in the popular free-to-play battle royale game.

A Fortnite Escape Room based around Doctor Who has been released featuring foes and friends of The Doctor such as the Cybermen, Daleks, Weeping Angels and the adorable robot dog K9. Even that ugly Kerblam! delivery robot is included.

Not worked on by Epic Games, the Doctor Who Fortnite map can be played by inputting the Island Code 3610-1396-4646 in the game mode menu. Releasing on March 17, the mode should offer some respite for fans of the series who also love Epic’s battle royale game.

Fortnite is currently free-to-play on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch and mobile.
