Free-to-play mobile RPG game Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia is already reaching its demise. After six years of service, the free role-playing mobile game is being closed down in all regions.

Revealed in a post on Twitter, the game’s official account revealed that the game will close its doors at the start of 2024. While thanking its loyal fanbase of players, the account revealed the game won’t be continuing into next year.

“To our loyal players,” the post reads. “It is with deep regret that we inform you that DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY OPERA OMNIA will end service on Feb. 29, 2024 UTC. We would like to thank you for your many years of support, and hope you can enjoy playing for a little while longer.”

Fans have had a mixed reception to the closure of the Final Fantasy mobile game. While some have acted weirdly positively to the game’s closure, many have expressed sadness after years of playing the freemium mobile title.

“This is such a sudden and unexpected shutdown for a fan-favourite spinoff. There was obviously a lot planned for the future of this game, and now it's just going to be gone,” one fan said. “Please, will there be an offline version where you can view the story, at least?”

“Wow, this is depressing. The game still made good money and there is no way the overhead of both sides was more than it made,” said another. “RIP another gacha. It was a fun ride.”

Multiple fans have asked for an offline version of the game to view the game’s cutscenes or their earned characters after the servers have closed. With players’ purchases being ripped away into the void, a way to view unlocked characters and skins would at least be one way to continue enjoying the title.

Released in 2017, Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia has been one of the longest lasting free-to-play spin-offs in the series. Based on the fighting game subseries, the game featured a bunch of characters from across the history of Final Fantasy.

If you want to give the game a go before its closure, you can download the game for free on Android and iOS.
