A new update for Alan Wake 2 will allow you to reduce the amount of spooks you’ll encounter while you play. For those who couldn’t deal with the horrifying jump scares, you’re still screwed, just less so now.

In the new Alan Wake 2 1.15 update, Remedy Entertainment has fixed some issues with collecting manuscripts and an host of other bugs. Alongside this, the studio has added the option for players to reduce the amount of jump scares that appear while you’re playing.

Importantly, this doesn’t stop jump scares from occurring within the horror game. However, the “horror flashes” will be less frequent to stop you from leaping out of your chair and screaming every five minutes.

Alongside the reduction in spooky jump scares, the new Alan Wake 2 update also adds the much requested Chapter Select feature for fans to replay whatever sections they want. This means that once you complete the game, you’ll be able to select your favourite parts to re-experience.

“The update contains the Chapter Select function, allowing you to load up any mission you want,” Remedy announced. “So, you can replay the We Sing mission over and over to potentially annoy your neighbors!”

Remedy’s inclusion of the new Chapter Select feature isn’t just for experiencing the game’s best moments all over again. In addition to that, you’ll be able to easily go back to mop up any remaining achievements or trophies you missed during your initial run without playing the entire game again.

Of course, Alan Wake 2’s latest update also comes with a bunch of bug fixes to make the game a smoother experience on all platforms. For example, the new patch brings fixes for a huge collection of bugs that stopped specific items such as case clues from being interacted with over the course of the game.

Remedy has even gone through the game to add extra graphical touches to specific sections of the game. The Nursing Home’s basement is now more atmospheric, shadows and lighting have been improved in multiple areas and the game’s vegetation now always reacts to “explosions in a cool way”. Alan Wake 2 is available to play right now on PC, Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. The game can also be streamed on PC and mobile via Nvidia GeForce Now.
