Skyrim modder grants player’s request to have their deceased cat immortalised in Tamriel

Furpot the cat in Skyrim.

Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by overhauling iconic quests, revamping menus, and adding interesting new collectables to it, with a few even going as far as re-creating areas from previous Elder Scrolls games or giving players the ability to dress up like characters from Gotham Knights.

However, sometimes the best mods are those that can add a unique, personal touch to someone’s game, which is exactly what one feline-based creation that’s just hit the Nexus does.

Would you like to go on an adventure with your pet in Skyrim?

The impetus for this work’s creation came from a thread on r/skyrimmods, which saw user alaydianblue reveal that their beloved cat named Furpot, who “spent hundreds of hours laying in my lap while we adventured through Skyrim”, had died.

They followed this up with a polite request, saying: “I was wondering if anyone could make a little mod that adds a grey cat with green eyes (into the game) that can (maybe be) purchased from Khajiit caravans and adopted. I want to be able to adventure with him even if he isn’t here with us anymore.”

Plenty of their fellow players responded to the post by expressing their condolences and sharing their own experiences with losing pets, while one modder, Hypn0sef, decided to act on the request, creating ‘Furpot the Kitty’, a recruitable cat follower chilling out in Dragonsreach, with some help from MihailMods’ ‘House Cats- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version) (''pet'')’.

They then shared this creation with alaydianblue, who was overjoyed, responding: “(I’m) beyond thankful for you my friend, I will make sure to tell my boy about the brave adventurer who brought him back from Sovngarde.”

However, as they play on Xbox, they’re now looking for a modder who can port the mod over to bethesda.net, so that it can be used on console.

So, if you’ve got the modding skills necessary to do just that, maybe consider jumping into the thread and offering some help.

Regardless of whether you’re planning to download the mod and let Furpot tag along on your next adventure, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding. You can also check out our mods of the month for December 2022.
