Nintendo Drop A New Metroid Dread Trailer, Revealing A Familiar Face

Nintendo's just released a new Metroid Dread trailer, revealing several surprises for long-running fans. If you want to keep that surprise hidden, look away now, it's about to get rather spoilery.

Alongside some new gameplay footage, showing Samus' latest abilities off having suffered a fresh round of "ability amnesia", this trailer outlines two key characters. Firstly, it introduces us to a member of the Chozo, the race which adopted Samus Aran as a young child.

Said to have mostly disappeared from the universe, this particular Chozo has hostile intent against Samus. Within the latest Metroid Dread report, Nintendo offered this information:

The figure who attacked Samus appears to be a Chozo. The Chozo were a highly intelligent and technologically advanced species who believed their purpose to be that of bringing peace throughout the galaxy. Eventually, the Chozo civilization reached a breaking point, and living Chozo are now rarely seen. The Chozo are known to be peaceful and mild mannered, but Galactic Federation records indicate the existence of “Chozo warriors.”

Secondly, we know that Kraid's returning as a villain, marking his first new appearance in the series since 1995's Super Metroid.

As for how the three-eyed giant reptilian's returned, that remains unknown, though that report states there's a giant monster that "appears to be Kraid", meaning some trickery could be involved.

It's an in-depth look at the upcoming entry and while we've only got six weeks left, Dread's looking like a strong new addition to the Metroid library. You can watch the trailer above, and Nintendo's promising their next Dread Report takes a closer look at this mysterious Chozo.
