Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit just received a surprise new update. While developers Velan Studios recently launched Knockout City with EA, they've been quietly working on further updates to Mario Kart's augmented reality spin-off, releasing Version 1.10 last night.

According to Nintendo of America’s support page, this new updates makes “general changes to improve enjoyment of the game”, alongside a new Mario Cup within Grand Prix mode. That comes with three new tracks and a Yoshi kart, which are all available for free.

Each of these also brings new weather conditions. Slip Circuit adds black oil that causes racers to slip, Barrel Temple is a Donkey Kong themed course with wooden barrel hazards, while Fossil Field gives us a prehistoric circuit with geysers, drenching your screen with water. You can find the full patch notes below.

  • "Mario Cup" has been added to "Grand Prix". Fulfill certain conditions in "Mario Cup" and receive three new "Environments" and a "Gate" to use in course creation.
  • "Super Yoshi" and "Yoshi Horn" have been added to the kart designs in the game. Unlock them by fulfilling certain conditions in Mario Cup.

It's a surprise but in fairness, we did recently say we wanted new tracks for Mario Kart. Granted, we weren't expecting this would be for Home Circuit, but this is a pleasant surprise for existing players.
