Let's face it, we're not getting Mario Kart 9 anytime soon. We'd love to see it, but we're not complaining that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is receiving fresh content, five years after it launched on Switch and eight years after the original Wii U edition.

Called the Booster Course Pass, Nintendo surprised us all during the February 2022 Nintendo Direct. Confirming 48 new tracks are coming in six waves, that offers 8 tracks with every update, all remastered from previous games.

March 17, 2022 -

GoNintendo has found a proper release time for the Australian version of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass DLC, courtesy of some folks from Reddit.

The DLC is scheduled to come out at 10am AETD, March 18 in Australia, which has been converted to 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern / 11pm UK today.

March 15, 2022 -

Those who purchased the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can preload the Booster Court Pass's first DLC wave with no extra payment. That launches this Friday on March 18.

February 15, 2022 -

Nintendo has revealed that players can still access tracks from the Booster Course Pass in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, even if they don't own the DLC. Outlined on the official Mario Kart page, that confirms:

Courses from Wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass can be played from 18th March locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

February 9, 2022 -

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is finally getting new DLC, and Nintendo's planned quite a significant expansion. In a move that basically makes this Mario Kart 9, the Booster Course Pass brings 48 remastered courses from the entire Mario Kart series into Deluxe.

What Tracks Are In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass?

So far, only Wave 1 has been confirmed, adding these remastered tracks:

  • Golden Dash Cup - Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour), Toad Circuit (Mario Kart 7), Choco Mountain (Mario Kart 64), Coconut Hall (Mario Kart Wii)
  • Lucky Cat Cup - Tokyo Blur (Mario Kart Tour), Shroom Ridge (Mario Kart DS), Sky Garden (Mario Kart Super Circuit), Ninja Hideaway (Mario Kart Tour)

Release Date

Wave 1 arrives on March 18, 2022. We don't know when the further five DLC waves will launch, though the Booster Course Pass is scheduled to run up until the end of 2023.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass costs £22.49 / $24.99 USD alone, granting access to all 6 DLC waves as they release. However, subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can access this DLC at no extra cost. You can pre-order this now on the Nintendo eShop.
