The Last of Us 2 finally launches on June 19, 2020 – meaning we're getting closer to reuniting with Joel and Ellie.
The first game offered items known as "Tools", with one located in each chapter. Once Joel has picked up all of them, his "tool level" would increase, allowing him to apply more upgrades to his weapons and items.

Tools are not a part of The Last of Us Part 2, as instead, Ellie gathers scrap and supplies. She can improve her skills, but doing so requires skill manuals hidden in the world.
In the sequel, there's also a new weapon customisation suite that Ellie can use to upgrade weapons with materials she finds.
