The release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is right around the corner, and like with most games, it's going to be receiving a day one patch! We have the information around the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet day one patch, and it's a crucial patch to pick up to experience the game in full.

This patch will be required regardless of the version of the game that you are playing, and will be applicable to both physical and digital downloads of the game. The update is roughly about 1GB is size, so it's not a massively content heavy additions patch, but it's important nonetheless.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet day one patch notes

According to Game Freak and Nintendo, the day one patch is going to be important to download before you start playing Pokemon Scarlet and Silver. While we don't have exact patch notes for this day one patch, here are some of the things that you can expect to gain from this patch.

  • Online features

Simply put, downloading v1.0.1 of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet unlocks the online functionality of the game. This will allow you to partake in Tera Raids, play cooperatively with up to four players, and access Mystery gift.

With this patch, you'll be able to access the Flying Pikachu mystery gift that is being provided by Nintendo, but again, you'll need to have downloaded the patch, and have an active Nintendo Online membership.

How do I get the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet day one patch?

In order to download the patch, it's fairly straight forward. If the game doesn't ask for you to download the patch automatically upon starting the game for the first time, you can follow these steps to check and force the download.

  • Make sure that your Nintendo Switch is connected to the Internet.
  • Hover over Pokemon Scarlet / Violet
  • Press the + / - button on your controller
  • Select "Software Update"
  • Select "From the Internet"

This should prompt an update if there are any available. After the update has downloaded, you should be able to load into the game with the updated features.
