After it was revealed last year, Gamescom 2022 was our first major chance to see Lies of P in action. The opening showcase debuted a four-minute cinematic trailer introducing us to the world, story, and gameplay in this fantasy soulslike.

The trailer showcases our main character, a much more lifelike version of Pinocchio with the ability to extend his nose by lying. That's alongside a look at some huge boss battles and eerie villains you'll face on your quest to find Geppetto.

What is Lies of P?

Lies of P is a soulslike action RPG. Developed by Neowiz, the game adapts the original Pinocchio story from Italian writer Carlo Collodi. You play as Pinocchio, a humanoid puppet constantly striving to become human. After arriving alone in the ravaged city of Krat, he has one goal: to find his maker Geppetto. Pinocchio must traverse across the murky city of Krat to find him and finally become human.

In terms of gameplay, Lies of P looks to go down the soulslike formula. The Gamescom 2022 footage shows off plenty of boss battles, against enemies ranging from human-spider hybrids to monsters made of steel. Since Pinocchio himself is a puppet rather than a human, it means he can replace and upgrade body parts on a whim. Some footage shows him with mechanical arms, no doubt handy in both traversal and combat.

Lies of P release date speculation

As of right now, Lies of P is without a release date. The game's Steam page purely lists a release window TBA, while the Gamescom trailer confirms it for some point in 2023. Given how little we still know about the game, the chances are it's more likely to come out towards the end of next year.
