Can I transfer save data in The Witcher 3 next-gen?

The good news is that yes, you can transfer your save data across console generations with this new release of The Witcher 3. However, that comes with a few limitations.

Of course, if you're going from generations within one console family, you'll have no problem. For example, PS4 saves will seamlessly transfer to PS5 saves, and the same with Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. However, cross-console transfers aren't supported, so bear that in mind.

How do I transfer save data in The Witcher 3 next-gen?

Fortunately, it's really easy to transfer your save data with The Witcher 3's next-gen upgrade. Bear in mind that to do it, you'll need a GOG account. Here's what to do:

  • Install the previous-gen version of The Witcher 3 onto your next-gen console, and ensure it's fully updated to version 4.0.
  • Boot up the game, select Load Game, and hit L2.
  • From here, you're prompted to log into your GOG account.
  • Once logged in, select the option to upload your save data to the cloud.
  • Then head over to the next-gen version of The Witcher 3, and select My Rewards from the main menu.
  • Sign back into your GOG account, and the uploaded save file will be there for you to download.

From there, your game will be fully crossed over onto the next-gen version. Of course, this will make your previous-gen copy redundant, so you can go ahead and uninstall it to save on some hard drive space. Just note that after this, the save file won't configure with your older version, so if you ever go back to the PS4 or Xbox One copies of The Witcher 3, it won't transfer over.

That's all you need to know about transferring your save data in The Witcher 3's next-gen upgrade! It's a fairly simple process provided you have a GOG account, and lets you dive back into a world of adventure with all your progress in tow.
