How to get Powdermelon in Stardew Valley

The major 1.6 update for Stardew Valley has brought multiple new items that have generated a lot of excitement in the community. One such rare winter seed that enables you to go crops even in the coldest of weather is the Powdermelon in Stardew Valley. You no longer need to shut down your farming activities as the Powedermelon enables year-long activity.

While the Powdermelon crop grows even in snow, the catch is getting the seeds themselves as they won’t be available in Pierre’s general store. In this guide, we will show you where you can find Powdermelon seeds, how you can get them and the crop’s uses in this new Stardew Valley update

Where to find the Powdermelon seed

The concept of the Powdermelon crop works in the same way as others in the game, meaning that once you have a melon you can extract more seeds from it and continue farming. However, getting that first seed to start the process is the tricky bit.

Digging up the ground

Powdermelon seeds can be found by digging grass tufts and artifact spots. These appear randomly so you need to wander around till one appears. Once you come across one, use the hoe and dig them up for a chance to get the Powdermelon seed.

While the grass and artifact spots can look similar there is a key difference. The artifact spot has three worms sticking out and wriggling whereas, on a grass tuft, they are replaced by grass blowing in the wind. Upon digging, you’re more likely to find a Powdermelon seed in a grass tuft as compared to artifact spots as the latter can also give you random items or artifacts for the museum.

For a higher probability of finding these spots head to the Cindersnap forest south of the farm or head towards the mines in the north.

Alternative methods

Two other chance-based methods to find Powdermelon Seeds include breaking Crates in The Mines and opening the Golden Fishing Treasure Chests between Fall 21 and Winter 20.

Purchase from a vendor

The other way to get Powdermelon seeds is by purchasing them from the Raccoon after activating the tree stump quest. Upon completing its quest and building the raccoon a house to set up a shop, the raccoon becomes a vendor. You can then buy Powdermelon seeds from it for the price of 2 Pine Cones. A lengthy method, but it’s your only option if it isn't winter.

How to get more Powdermelon Seeds

The Powdermelon crop takes 7 days to grow, and can then be put into a seed maker to continue getting more seeds and without ever having to go back looking for random digging spots. The best advice would be to split your produce in half. One for the seed maker and the other for the shipping bin to sell.

Powerdermelon uses

They can be sold for a base value of 60g, while Silver Powdermelon sells for 82g, Golden Powdermelon for 99g. and Iridium Powdermelon for 132g.
