Other Rune Factory 3 characters
There are also a few miscellaneous characters you'll encounter in your time with Rune Factory 3 Special. These range from mysterious visitors to your village to your own offspring.
Firstly, Yue and Mei are two guests who can sporadically rock up to your township. They function differently to other characters in the game as they can't become your friends, even though you can gift them. They don't perform the same quest-giving role as other Rune Factory NPCs, but instead you can buy rare items from them.
Equally, you and your spouse can also welcome a male child or female child into the world. You can have up to three children in Rune Factory 3 Special, though they don't have many gameplay interactions. Instead, they'll just hang around your home, occasionally chatting to your protagonist.
Are there any new characters in Rune Factory 3 Special?
As of right now, it doesn't seem like there will be any new townspeople in Rune Factory 3 Special. This upcoming Nintendo Switch re-release appears to be fairly faithful to its source material, and as such it's doubtful that newcomers will pop up.
Despite this, Rune Factory 3 Special is adding new ways for you to interact with existing townsfolk. The new Newlywed Mode adds additional narrative adventures for you and your spouse once married. As such, you'll get to spend more time with existing characters, rather than meeting new ones.
Who is the playable character in Rune Factory 3 Special?
As with the original game, in Rune Factory 3 Special you play as Micah. Unsurprisingly, he's an amnesiac new arrival to the town who can transform between human and Wooly forms.
Throughout the game, he learns how and why he's able to transform in such a superhuman way, and the ultimate purpose behind his falling from the sky to land in this village. It's classic Rune Factory fare, but exactly what fans are looking for.
And of course, the playable character in Rune Factory 3 Special won't change with this remake. You'll be Micah, just as in the original - albeit with some upgraded graphics to boot.
