How do I get mystery gifts in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
To get mystery gifts in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you'll have to follow a specific redemption process. GameFreak has yet to disclose the specifics of the process, though previous Pokémon games have made you browse through the pause menu.
The most recent game in the series, Pokémon Legends Arceus, did it differently. In that title you had to go onto your bag and scroll across until you reach the mystery gift section. From there, you could type in a code provided by Nintendo or found online, to grab some free Pokéballs or exclusive gifts.
We imagine that the mystery gift mechanic will remain fairly similar in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, you should note that you won't necessarily be able to redeem codes as soon as you start a save. As per Nintendo, it takes roughly between 60 to 90 minutes of gameplay before you unlock the mystery gift function. Therefore, it's likely one of the final steps of the fairly guided tutorial you usually find in Pokémon games.
Of course, once we have our hands on Scarlet and Violet, we'll update this guide to tell you exactly how to redeem those mystery gifts.
What do mystery gifts contain?
In this pre-release period, mystery gifts will be used to provide pre order bonuses to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players. So far, players will be able to get a special Flying-type Pikachu by using the mystery gift feature before February 28, 2023.
Equally, if you purchase the Nintendo eShop version before the end of February 2023, you can use it to get an Adventure Set containing Potions, Full Heals, Revives, Ether, Rare Candy, and a Nugget.
Your last option is if you purchase the double pack, containing both Scarlet and Violet. Doing so will entitle you to a mystery gift containing 100 Pokéballs in each game.
The good news is that more mystery gifts should arrive in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet down the line as well. You can expect extra freebies as and when GameFreak holds promotional events, with some exclusive Pokémon formes potentially in there as well. We'll have to wait and see.
That's it for our look at mystery gifts in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet! While you're here, feel free to check out our Pokédex list to see all the confirmed Pokémon so far.
