How to disable Modern Warfare 2 crossplay

Disabling crossplay in Modern Warfare 2 is an incredibly straightforward process. Here's what you need to do in Season 5:

  • Press Options on your controller to open the Modern Warfare 2 UI.
  • Scroll to the Settings tab on the far right.
  • Select "Account & Network."
  • Highlight the "Crossplay" option and switch it off.

Switching crossplay off means PlayStation users won't match with any Xbox or PC players. Simply switch it back on if you want to join forces with other platforms at another time.

Can Xbox and PC players disable Modern Warfare 2 crossplay?

For Xbox and PC players wanting to switch crossplay off, it's bad news. There's no option to switch off the feature, meaning you're always matching with PlayStation users.

It also means there's a high chance of running into players using a mixture of inputs that may cause frustration. It's unclear if Infinity Ward has any plans on bringing a crossplay toggle to PC and Xbox. If the developer does add it, follow the above steps to deactivate it.

Does Modern Warfare 2 have input-based matchmaking?

Modern Warfare 2 doesn't utilise input-based matchmaking but the idea is catching the attention of several players. Having keyboard and mouse players match against each other creates a level playing field and no debate surrounding the effectiveness of aim assist while controller players can battle it out amongst themselves.

The chances of Infinity Ward switching to input-based matchmaking is slim considering the massive focus on skill-based matchmaking (SBMM).

Yes, Warzone 2 does feature crossplay which is great news if you want to join forces with players on another platform. However, several members of the community believe the feature is responsible for hackers ruining matches for everyone which is one reason you might want to switch off crossplay in Season 5.
