How do I start a match in Kirby's Dream Buffet?

When you finish the opening cutscene in Kirby's Dream Buffet, you enter a small hub world. This functions as the game's main menu, except you can roll around and navigate it all as Kirby, rather than simply clicking buttons.

Fortunately, the option to start a match is nice and easy. Roll directly forwards from where you first spawned in, to the blue Main Menu hub. Press A to go onto the match selection menu, and you'll see three options to determine which type to go for.

What game modes are in Kirby's Dream Buffet?

There are three main modes in Kirby’s Dream Buffet; Battle Mode, Online Mode, and Local Play Mode.

You'll most frequently find yourself playing Online Mode, which is the default four-player battle royale experience. In that mode the matchmaking puts you against three random opponents from across the globe, each vying to eat the most strawberries and become the biggest Kirby of them all.

However, if you're looking for a more social experience playing Kirby's Dream Buffet, the other modes may be for you. Battle Mode lets you play against three AI opponents, functioning as the main Kirby’s Dream Buffet single player mode.

Despite this, you can also use two Joy-Con controllers to play alongside a friend locally, making it two of you against two CPU players. If offline multiplayer is your thing, it's Battle Mode you'll look for.

The final mode is Local Play Mode, which lets you and three other players enter a private lobby via local wireless connection. As such, it's the closest thing you'll get to a LAN party in Kirby's Dream Buffet.

One thing to note is that each player requires a copy of the game, so you can't all dive into a match if only one of you owns the software.

As such, getting into a match of Kirby's Dream Buffet is fairly easy. However, you'll still want to know the difference between all three game modes to determine which one suits you best. From there, you can play to your heart's content.
