If you're looking for the Fortnite vault keys and how they work, this is everything you need to know. Being a more recent addition to the game, there's quite a lot to figure out when it comes to Fortnite vaults. Let's go over how to find the Vault keys and where to find the vaults.

There are so many to find and some of them need more keys so it may take you a while to get through them all. Though you should never rely on cracking one open to win a match, getting lucky enough to bust them open will give you the guns and gear you'll need to stand a fighting chance at a victory royale.

How to find Fortnite vault keys

Vault Keys can be found in a few central ways. First, you can find them through opening chests and looking through the area you land. Unfortunately, there's not much of a method to this, you just have to get lucky. If you're feeling particularly brave, you can let others do the work for you.

If you land in a place with tonnes of other players, you could set up some sort of blockade in between them and the nearest vault, in the hopes of taking them down before they get there.

You can then steal their stuff and have a look in the vault for yourself. Unfortunately, some vaults require more keys to unlock them. In return, you get much better loot. It may take you a while to get into the best vaults but it's worth it.

If the map is a little hard to read, you can find the vaults at the following locations:

  • North West of logjam Junction (1)
  • The middle of Rave Cave (2)
  • Just South of Rave Cave (1)
  • South West of Rave Cave (1)
  • West of Coney Crossroads (1)
  • In the middle of Lustrous Lagoon (2)
  • North West of Shimmering Shrine (1)
  • First island North East of Fort Jonesy (1)
  • North of Cloudy Condos (2)
  • South of Cloudy Condos (1)
  • West of Chonker's Speedway (1)
  • Centre of Tilted Towers (2)
  • South West of Tilted Towers (1)
  • West of Greasy Grove (1)

The little numbers by each entry there denote how many keys you'll need to crack open each safe. Some need more than one, but you can carry multiple on you at once, so you won't have to bring a friend or backtrack.

To open them, just approach each lock by the side of the Fortnite vault door. If you have a key, you'll get the usual button prompt. Use the key, wait a little bit, and the vault will open up if you unlocked every lock.
