In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Odin is the sixth and final Summon that can be unlocked towards the end of the game. The legendary Norse God of Death is a common occurrence in Final Fantasy games and is considered one of the strongest, if not the strongest, Summons, primarily due to his deadly one-shot Zantetsuken attack. So you'll want to know how to get this deadly god on your side.

This can be achieved when you reach the sixth open-world zone called the Nibel Region, which is where the Odin Summon Entity encounter will become available. Once there, you must defeat Odin in Chadley's Combat Simulator to unlock the Odin Summon Materia. So let's go through these steps on how to get Odin on your side.

To try and beat the strongest Summon, which will land you one of the most powerful Summon Materia in the game, then check out the tips below:

  • Odin doesn't have any elemental weaknesses, but he's not immune to any of the elements either, so it's anything goes - use whatever deals the most damage.
  • To put pressure on Odin and eventually Stagger him, keep successfully landing any ATB commands, evade his attacks or put some status effects on him.
  • Odin has a wide range of moves, but none are difficult to avoid once you learn them. Close-range melee Spear Rampage or overhead Helmcleaver can be easily dodged, while with Soaring Spear, he launches the lance towards you very quickly, making it hard to avoid. There's also Sleipnir's Furor, which deals AOE damage to all characters that are too close.
  • A good tactic would be to attack him from long range with powerful spells and abilities and close the distance only when he's not casting anything or when he's Staggered.
  • It is crucial to avoid most of his attacks at all times because if too many of them connect, he will cast Gjallarhorn's Warning, which means that shortly after, Zentetsuken will follow, wiping out the entire party with a single move - there is no defending against it.
  • However, as a defence against this devastating move, you can utilise Revival Earrings, which currently seem to be the only way to revive after Odin wipes out the party with Zentetsuken. So, equip Revival Earrings on a support character who has also Revival Materia equipped and can resurrect the rest of the party using Raise or Arise spells.
  • Alternatively, you can equip Revival Earrings on the entire party, but this will sacrifice a lot of slots that can be used for more useful equipment. Like in all other Summon Entity battles in the Combat Simulator, you cannot use consumable items, so you can forget about Phoenix Downs. The only issue with the Revival Earrings tactic is that you can only use it once - regardless of how many characters you equip with this item, they will be destroyed upon the first resurrection, and if Odin later casts another Zentetsuken, it's game over for you.
  • When Odin is low in health, he will start using even more attacks, including Spatial Distortion, which splits the battlefield in two, sometimes trapping some characters on the other side unable to fight for the duration.
  • Temporal Imprisonment is another disabling ability that Odin might use later in the fight. You can either wait it out or try to break out of it with the help of other characters.
  • Eventually, you'll fill up the Stagger gauge, and when Odin enters this state, his main HP will decrease quite quickly if you unleash all your Limit Breaks and stronger Synergy moves you've been saving.
  • Additionally, some of the other powerful Summons can help to deplete the remaining health from the first stagger, as you don't want the battle to last too long, giving Odin a chance to finish you off with another Zantetsuken.

Although Odin seems like an extremely tough boss in initial encounters, he can be easily defeated later in the post-game with a slightly stronger party around level 60, even without Revival Earrings or lowering the difficulty. So, for this battle, it's crucial to come in with sufficiently high stats and good reflexes to avoid Odin's moves and evade the problems brought by the insta-killing Zantetsuken attack.

Odin summon crystal locations

If you want to unlock this Summon Materia earlier in the game you can lower the difficulty to Easy, or find all three Summon Crystal locations in the Nibel Region - just be aware, that you'll need a Blue Chocobo for this. The Odin Summon Crystals/Divine Intel are only reachable with the regional Blue Chocobo and its Chocojet ability, which will launch you to locations that are impossible to reach.

If you were fortunate enough to defeat Odin, you'll also receive his Summon Materia, allowing you to summon the mighty Norse god to aid you in battles. To summon Odin, the summon gauge needs to appear randomly during the battle, and then you must have two full ATB charges.

When Odin is summoned, he will deal non-elemental damage with his repeated attacks, and his ultimate attack, the well-known Zantetsuken, is one of the strongest in the game.

While it deals tremendous non-elemental damage, this attack also has a chance to one-shot just about any opponent in the game! If you successfully analyse all three Odin Summon Crystals in the Nibel Region, you can level up his Summon Materia to level 4 and thus unlock another special move - Allfather's Fury.

But there you have it, that's all you need to know about unlocking Odin as a Summon.
