You can sidestep Tonberries in FF7, but since they're all over the place, it won't be long before you run into them again, especially when they're integral to your tasks. As you continue to progress in the game, you'll reach a point where Johnny’s doppelganger tasks you with obtaining a Pristine Crown from the Tonberry King as part of the “The Saga of the Seaside Inn” questline in Corel.

Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie are by far the best party members to maintain a strong offence and defeat Tonberry King swiftly. Ensure that you equip the Ennervation Materia on one of your characters. This Materia allows you to cast Deprotect, maintaining aggression to take him down swiftly.
The Tonberry King doesn't have any elemental weaknesses that make it demanding to beat. Your best bet is to sidestep one of its attacks, then go all out on it to force it to drop its Pristine Crown. To get the Tonberry King's crown, promptly switch to Yuffie or any party member equipped with Steal Materia and steal it immediately. If you defeat the Tonberry King without resorting to stealing its crown, your reward will be the Marred Crown item instead.
After obtaining the Pristine Crown, you can decide whether you want to continue the battle against the Tonberry King or simply flee with the crown. Regardless of the choice you make, the final task is to return to the original Johnny in Costa del Sol and give him the highly sought-after treasure that completes the quest line.
