With Season 20 of Apex Legends just around the corner, a brand-new LTM is coming to the Outlands, called Straight Shot. This new limited-time mode is all about getting into the action faster than ever before and is a sped-up version of the battle royale everyone knows and loves.
Apex Legends is no stranger to crazy limited-time modes, and Respawn brought back fan-favourite Three Strikes before Season 20 goes live on February 13, 2024. But this frenetic new LTM will be a fast-paced, high-octane gunfight, and we're looking forward to seeing what kind of chaos it will no doubt bring.

Straight Shot LTM explained
In short, Straight Shot is a condensed version of Apex Legends, giving more drops, more fights, and just more bang for your buck. The player count is halved, so there will only be 30 players per match, and the game focuses on a smaller part of the bigger base game maps. The end ring also closes in half the normal time, averaging at roughly 10 minutes per match.
And instead of the drop ship, during a game of Straight Shot your team is placed in a random spot on the map, normally somewhere in a named POI. However, they'll get no chance to relax, as each POI will always contain two teams right from the beginning. So the fighting starts almost the moment you load in.
Of course, you'll always have the option of evading combat altogether by rotating early, but... Where's the fun in that? Players can strive for the long game, but with this particular LTM, it's more than likely that fights will break out as soon as the game starts.
Looting in the Straight Shot LTM
The concept of hunting for loot in Straight Shot has been dramatically simplified. All weapons, regardless of rarity, will be fully kitted. So there's no need to hunt around for a stock or a barrel in this mode.
Each ground weapon in Straight Shot will range in rarity from white to gold, so there is still an element of RNG, but at the very least you won't have to go attachment hunting. It looks to make everything that little bit faster, which will no doubt make looting even more hectic, despite it being easier. The run for that glinting gold gun will be more dramatic than ever before.
No more waiting in the lobby for a game
One of the most exciting things being brought in along with the Straight Shot LTM is the means to get right back into the action as soon as possible. When you're eliminated, you and your squad can immediately queue for the next match right from the spectate screen.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Fortnite, the Straight Shot LTM doesn't force you back into the lobby when you die a dramatic death. You'll be able to watch your killers scrabble with their next fight while you wait to get into a new match.
All of these changes to the gameplay are focused on getting you back into the fray as quickly as possible, which means you can play more matches in less time.
