Want to find out how to get the Buster Sword in Apex Legends? In this guide, we'll explain everything you need to know.

Announced originally at The Game Awards, the Apex Legends x FFVII Rebirth event is about to begin, bringing a ton of cosmetics, new gameplay mechanics, and even the iconic Buster Sword to the battle royale.

In fact, there will be two Busters Swords for players to try out – the R2R5 and the R5 cosmetic melee, also known as Heirloom. Let's explain how you can get your hands on both.

You can use the Buster Sword as a melee weapon

Perhaps the most sought-after of the two, the heirloom version of the Buster Sword will be available via event packs once the FFVII Rebirth takeover starts on January 9. You'll be able to get it until January 30, when the event ends.

This version of the legendary weapon doesn't enhance any of your abilities, it's simply a cosmetic that can be equipped instead of another heirloom or your character's fists.

Unlike other heirlooms, this one can be used on your favourite Legend. However, don't expect it to hit the Mythic Shop when the events end, you only have a few weeks to get your hands on it before it's gone, possibly for good.

Now, the second version of the weapon can be found in-game. The Final Fantasy VII crossover won't be available in ranked, with modes only found in quickplay, so be sure to hop on casual playlists.

You'll be able to find this Buster Sword while looting but it can also drop via Care Packages. Unlike the heirloom, the R2R5 is an actual weapon, letting you feel Cloud Strife himself.

You can do light and heavy attacks, block damage, and dash to get in on your opponents. It will also let you unleash a powerful limit break attack once you fill-up the bar.

And that's it. For more on Apex Legends, check out recent news of former players flocking to the new kid on the block, The Finals.
