It looks like CD Projekt Red isn’t stopping support for The Witcher 3 just yet. Not only did this game receive a next-gen upgrade for new consoles, but the open-world RPG will soon have an official mod editor.
Announced on the official Witcher Twitter account, CD Projekt Red announced that this mod editor will be coming to PC in 2024 as a free download. The account also confirmed that this feature will be PC-only for now, after a fan asked if consoles would be getting this update.
“We're thrilled to announce that we're working on a mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!” said the account. “It will allow you to create your own experiences in the game by making something completely new or editing existing quests and content. We’re planning on releasing it for free in 2024.”
Similar to Bethesda, CD Projekt Red has embraced the modding community for Witcher 3, so this mod editor is a nice gesture. In fact, the company actually used several fan-made mods for the next-gen patch, crediting the creators for their hard work.
Considering how popular the current modding scene for this title is, we assume that this editor will only double that popularity once it becomes available. It won’t be long before Thomas the Tank Engine starts making Geralt’s life a living hell.
Most fans are probably happy that Witcher 3 is still getting plenty of support, albeit, in upgrades rather than additional content. Then again, this mods editor could give fans all of the content they want, assuming that it will be really in-depth, of course.
Now that Cyberpunk 2077 has its expansion, fans are hoping to hear from CD Projekt Red about The Witcher 4 soon. The company did confirm that new entries to the series are coming, including a new game and a remake of The Witcher 1. Considering how the first game was for the PC master race, we can’t wait to see how the controller-friendly third game influences this remake.
