The first official gameplay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been revealed and many fans were surprised to see a free-roaming Metropolis. When fans saw the city, they thought it was leftovers from Rocksteady’s rumoured Superman game, but a reporter has debunked this, saying they were never working on one.

Esteemered games journalist Jason Schreier responded to a post getting traction about the remains of Metropolis coming from a supposedly canceled Superman project. Schreier says that Rocksteady’s main focus was always the Suicide Squad game and they were never making a game that featured Superman.

Naturally, some fans are surprised that Rocksteady has been working on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for more than seven years. Granted, the IP is still a hot commodity amongst fans, since it has two movies and a spin-off show starring John Cena.

Unfortunately, fans haven’t been too positive about seeing Kill the Justice League, as everything shown is leading fans to believe it is live-service shlock. This is a new mandate from Warner Bros. as the company wants all of their major IPs to have these kinds of games, whether it’s DC superheroes or Harry Potter.

Warner Bros. previously tried this with Gotham Knights, which most agreed was an average game with a decent amount of potential. There was plenty of effort put into the title, though the focus on multiplayer and grinding let it down. It’s why fans are worried about this new live-service model from Warner Bros. upcoming games.

Rocksteady has tried to address some of these concerns, claiming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will only charge fans extra for cosmetics. Extra characters and new stories will supposedly be free, while Battle Passes with extra costumes will have to be paid for. Hopefully, these characters will have distinct playstyles, because everyone just seems to be a gun-wielding thug with a grappling hook.
