Things aren’t looking too good for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, with many comparing DC’s live-service shooter to the disastrous Marvel’s Avengers. It doesn’t help that DC’s shooter launched with a smaller player base than the Marvel brawler, which isn’t great news for any fans of the game.
SteamDB (via PCGamesN) confirmed that Suicide Squad only had 13,459 players during its first day. Comparing that to Marvel’s Avengers, that game was at least able to launch with 29,916 players. It’s a pretty grim comparison, especially since Avengers is no longer available for purchase.
Various leaks are one of the reasons why this live-service shooter hasn’t done well, with the entire base game’s story spoiled months ahead of launch. Fans were already down when this was announced as a live-service shooter and the fact this messy story is set in the Batman Arkhamverse doesn’t help.
Not helping with the already negative reception following the shooter was its rocky Early Access period, which ended up being a mess. Players who bought the Deluxe Edition got to play the game a few days early but a bug going around claimed that players finished the game. Warner Bros. had to take it down and restart the game a few hours later, not leaving a good impression.
Another major factor that was against Suicide Squad was its release date: February 2. This live-service shooter came out a day before Granblue Fantasy: Relink and the same time as Persona 3 Reload. Both games also had much more positive coverage when compared to DC’s triple-A game.
It’s not all doom and gloom surrounding Kill the Justice League, as post-game support is said to be plentiful. We already know that a different version of The Joker is coming to the game and more DLC characters have also been teased, including fan-favorite assassin Deathstroke. Rocksteady is also implementing an offline mode soon, so gamers will finally be able to play this without an internet connection.
