There's no doubt that the recent live-service game from Warner Bros., Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, isn't doing too well. Since launch early last month, Suicide Squad has been the totem pole for how live-service games aren't good. Even if the same people criticising the title are playing hours on end of Helldivers 2, but I digress.
It's pretty clear that Suicide Squad didn't sell well, with the game having even less players than the controversial Marvel's Avengers game, which was actually pulled from store shelves in September 2023. Despite being a game that rewards you for playing daily, the player count is falling quite fast, and it has even slipped past 2014's Watch Dogs.
As of writing, according to Steam Charts, Watch Dogs has 489 players, while Suicide Squad is sitting at a mere 285 players. The peak is drastically different too, with Ubisoft's open-world reaching an all-time peak of 47,820, while Suicide Squad only managed to hit 13,459 players when it launched.
All of the Arkham games have higher player counts right now than that of Suicide Squad's dwindling player base, aside from Arkham VR and Arkham Blackgate, which was a 2.5D Vita port. In fact, Suicide Squad has less players than Gotham Knights, which was heavily criticised across the board, leading to people praising Gotham Knights' story compared to Suicide Squad.
Leaks claim that Arkham Asylum will arrive in Suicide Squad in a future update, leading us to believe that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League might get good in Season 3 of the roadmap. We've also got the beloved supervillain Deathstroke set to arrive during Season 4 according to the same leaks, which we're very excited for. If the game reaches Season 4, at least.
Our Suicide Squad review awarded the game an 8/10 score, saying that "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League delivers a solid looter shooter experience wrapped up in an actually hilarious narrative, with incredible performances from the cast of misfits". Obviously, our review wasn't the opinion of general audiences, with the title sitting at a modest 60% on average on Metacritic.
We're hoping that Suicide Squad will be able to pull a 180-turn similar to No Man's Sky, but unfortunately, that is looking unlikely as the days go by.
