Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might be a great game but some of its “fans” have proven to be anything but amazing, as they harassed Mary Jane actress Stephanie Tyler Jones. Fans were already pretty rude over how her character model looks in the game but the actress said things got worse in a statement.

On Jones’ Instagram Story, the actress reveals that some of these creeps “crossed boundaries” over the weekend. Some fans called her workplace and wanted her to speak with them, while others tried to use her skincare page to talk about the video game.

Needless to say, these so-called “fans” should be ashamed of themselves for making the Mary Jane actress feel unsafe and harassed. Jones also mentioned that she’s no longer an active actor or model, claiming each shoot she does is for creative fulfillment. Whether that’s due to Spider-Man 2 fans harassing her or not wasn’t mentioned but we wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

It’s always disappointing to see this type of online behavior over video game performances, though this isn’t anything new, unfortunately. Laura Bailey, who also voices Mary Jane in these Spider-Man games, actually received a ton of harassment for voicing Abbey in The Last of Us Part 2. Fans were also pretty mean to the new voice actor of Mario, who hadn’t done a ton of roles prior to his casting as Nintendo’s iconic character.

All of this behavior might make fans forget that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was easily the best PS5 exclusive released last year. Some would argue that it’s the exclusive Sony’s current-gen system needed since the PS5 didn’t create much buzz in 2023. Whatever the case, there’s no doubt that the superhero sequel is a must-buy, hence, it being the highest-rated game Insomniac has worked on.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, with PC fans hoping to get a port sometime this year. There are also rumours that free DLC will be coming to the game soon, similar to God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC.
