Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks like it’s going to be a Game of the Year contender, but the devs have made a major mistake. Co-lead of the game, Miles Morales, is of Puerto Rican descent but the folks at Insomniac accidentally put a Cuban flag in his room instead.
This detail was caught by The Houseless Turtle on Reddit, showing the mistake and how wrong it is to the characters. Both Miles and his mother Rio were pretty vocal about their heritage during the Miles Morales game, so seeing the wrong flag has rightfully annoyed fans.
James Stevenson, Director of Community and Marketing at Insomniac Games, has confirmed that a fix to this mistake is coming. While this won’t ruin the reputation of Spider-Man 2 by any means, the mistake is still a major one and the company should have noticed it earlier.
It’s a shame to see the company mess up like this since these games have been pretty solid showing off the diversity of New York. All three games have showcased different races, sexuality, disabilities, and more in a pretty respectful way, so this is a big blunder, but not enough to erase previous efforts.
Hopefully, the patch will be released soon, even if it is to cover up a small portion of the PS4 exclusive. Prior to this, Insomniac Games was proudly talking about how the full game is in the disc, with the update only released for various fixes and a smoother opening. Unfortunately, it seems that fix needs to come sooner rather than later for a whole different reason.
Once again, just to reiterate, Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games is still an excellent title and a must-buy for PS5 owners. We gave the game a perfect score in our review, as it might be the best superhero game ever released. This blunder won’t ruin that, but it shouldn’t be forgotten either.
