Sony Sells Sony Online Entertainment, Studio Goes Multi-Platform


Sony has announced the sale of Sony Online Entertainment to Columbus Nova, a New York-based investment management firm.

The studio which been a part of Sony for almost twenty years is no longer a division of the company. SOE, which is known for delivering MMOs such as EverQuest and DC Universe Online, has been renamed Daybreak Game Company.

What does this acquisition mean for gamers? Daybreak has announced the company’s desire to become an independent game development studio focused upon delivering multi-platform services. Therefore, it is likely gamers will see the studio’s upcoming titles, such as H1Z1 on Xbox as well as PlayStation and PC.

The CEO, John Smedley took to Twitter to announce his excitement in making multi-platform games by tweeting, “Can’t wait to make Xbox One games.”
