Sony Playstation has confirmed they will not be at E3 2020

Sony has confirmed it will not attend E3 for a second year in a row.

In response to yesterdays reports, the Japanese tech giant made a statement to GamesIndustry.biz saying they will not be attending.

Their statement reads: "“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”

E3 is the world's premier event in the gaming industry and is traditionally the highlight of the year.

The hole Sony left was certainly noticable when it didn’t attend last year's E3. The Playstation 4 has been arguably the most dominant console of this generation, with strong sales numbers accompanied by a plethora of successful exclusive title releases, so having a titan such as Sony absent was a serious blow to the event.

Last year, Sony gave a statement to Polygon, “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” said the tech giant. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

Sony responded to questions asking whether they would be following Electronic Arts and offer their own alternative E3 experience off-site to which they replied, “We will not be programming around E3”.
