Titan Forge Games have officially announced their plans to release a sequel to their much-loved moba game, SMITE. Heralding a new generation of its third-person multiplayer online battle arena, SMITE 2 has been built from the ground up in Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.

Considering the BAFTA-award-winning first title has been running on Unreal Engine 3 since its inception in 2014, this is a much-needed and very exciting upgrade that looks to bring its battles with the gods into the next-gen gaming arena. With 10 years of learning and understanding their game and their player base, Titan Forge Games is confident it can deliver a fully-realised sequel to their beloved SMITE.

SMITE 2 will take everything that players loved in the original and bake it in state-of-the-art visuals, new animations and engaging gameplay. These long overdue upgrades include a refined user interface, updated audio, less visual clutter with clearer spell effects, plus brand-new physics-based abilities for gods such as Ymir. Pretty much everything in the game is set to be improved upon, making a far superior version of the MOBA for the modern age.

SMITE 2 aims to cater to both newcomers and veterans of the original game in tandem, as Titan Forge is promising to continue supporting the original SMITE after the release of its sequel, with both games running live simultaneously. By keeping the OG servers active, players will be able to continue their adventures in the original game while also exploring the new horizons that SMITE 2 will offer.

SMITE 2 will offer a wealth of upgrades to the game, including new God pantheons, gameplay alterations, kit refinements, and completely overhauled Relic and Item systems, intended to aid in far more impactful combat and in-depth strategy. There will also be new vision control slots and new map objectives, as well as an introduction to dual power sources for Strength and Intelligence that aim to diversify each God's abilities and allow players to tackle certain fights in their own way.

And even with all of these upgrades, SMITE 2 also brings a Divine Legacy program intended to celebrate the 40 million SMITE players over the last 10 years by honouring player spending. Every single gem spent in the original will be converted into Legacy gems in SMITE 2, which can be spent at will. It's a clever way to get around the no-doubt hellish coding task of transferring tens of millions of player skins to each account, and this way, players get to start fresh and essentially trade in their old content for something new if they choose to.

The Divine Legacy program will also offer 11 unique skins, badges, and Gold Mastery levels, as well as cross-generation skins that will function in both SMITE 1 and SMITE 2. As well as this, all purchasable skins will be cross-generational going forward. Talk about giving the people what they want.

Players can wishlist SMITE 2 now on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Epic, and they can also register for alpha test access by visiting the SMITE 2 website.
