PlayStation 5: How To Be Among The First To Pre-Order One

Sony’s published a couple new pages regarding PS5 pre-orders at the official PlayStation website.

Though there’s already some confusion, the basic idea is that you need to put your name in and wait for your number to be called, so to speak, to pre-order a first-wave PS5. Quantities may be very limited.

How To Pre-Order A PS5 (In The U.S.)

“There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation,” Sony says.

“Pre-order reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once you get an invite via email, we encourage you to follow instructions and act fast.”

Make sure the email you’re using is the one associated with your PSN account, the website says. If you need to do a little extra legwork to get access to that inbox, now’s probably the time.

“Any orders that contain a non-U.S.-based address will be cancelled,” Sony adds.

How PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders Work

Sony says, “Our selection is based on previous interests and PlayStation activities.” Hence the confusion. These are not necessarily just first-come-first-serve, as stated on the previous page; Sony may give a bit of preferential treatment to longtime customers with a history of buying a lot of digital games.

A pre-order invitation is only good for a limited-time window, and entitles the associated PSN ID to the following:

  • 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2 DualSense charging stations
  • 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2 Media remotes
  • 2 HD Cameras
