Pocketpair’s mega-hit Palworld is in talks to expand to other platforms with the Sony PlayStation being the most likely candidate to get the incredibly successful Japanese game next.

Palword has emerged as one the biggest games of 2024 with over 10 million players on Xbox and 15 million copies sold on Steam. The game reportedly has had 2,101,867 simultaneous players at its peak, ranking as the second-highest ever concurrent player count right below PUBG.

Pocketpair has openly stated that they have no plans to keep the game Xbox exclusive and will be looking to have talks to expand the games to other platforms.

With Nintendo sounding unlikely PlayStation is the strongest candidate. Head of PlayStation Indies Shuhei Yoshida responded on Twitter responded with a simple “Yes” when requested by a fan to have the game released on PS platforms. Mizobe and his team also want to expand Palword to other online stores. Currently, the only way to play the game is through Steam or Microsoft’s storefront.

In an interview with Bloomberg, game creator Takuro Mizobe stated that he’s open to discussing any acquisitions or partnerships but it is not something the company is insisting upon, denying that there are any ongoing discussions with Microsoft.

The Pocketpair studio comprises 55 individuals only, and the company wants it to stay the same way. “Big-budget triple-A games are not for us”, said Mizobe further stating that we want to continue to make multiple small games.

The team behind Palword understands that they might never deliver such a big hit again and are likely to keep their earnings to themselves as they are an independent studio. The game reportedly cost less than ¥1 billion and has made a profit in “Tens of Billions” of Yen.

Although the game has been a massive success it hasn't been without controversy with Palworld being investigated by Pokemon for potential IP infringement with many expecting a port to Nintendo Switch being highly unlikely, leaving PlayStation as the biggest possible next destination for the game.
