BlizzCon 2023's opening ceremony had a ton of surprises for Overwatch 2 fans, with the official reveal of the game's 39th hero, Mauga, confirming leaks prior to the event. Furthermore, we got an early look at the hero roadmap for 2024.

In 2023, Overwatch received three new heroes with Lifeweaver, Illari, and the aforementioned Mauga expanding the roster. Meanwhile, the developers have confirmed that they are currently working on two new heroes set to release in 2024: a DPS hero, Venture, and another support, codenamed Space Ranger.

Venture has a robust look to them. Sporting a massive gun and a ton of utility in their backpack, the game's first non-binary hero is scheduled for release during Season 10. For context, Mauga will be released when Season 8 kicks off in mid-December, so we'll have to wait a while to see them in action.

More heroes for Overwatch 2 confirmed!

Space Ranger will take even longer to release, so much so that she doesn't even have an official name. Still, her design is rather unique, looking more like a futuristic space soldier than an Overwatch 2 hero. She's scheduled to be released during Season 12.

If Blizzard keeps the same hero release trends in 2024 as they did in 2023, that means only one more hero is yet to be revealed. We might not get any new information about them any time soon, sadly.

It's worth noting that with Venture, Blizzard will break a long streak of not adding any new DPS heroes to Overwatch 2. The last one was Sojourn when the sequel officially launched in 2022; however, she was first playable during the 2019 beta, so fans knew what to expect.

Since then, a total of six heroes have joined the ranks of Overwatch 2: three Tanks and three Supports. Still, even with this disparity in new characters for the damage-dealing role, they're the most represented class with 17 heroes, followed by 12 Tanks, and 10 Supports. That's even taking into consideration the fact that Doomfist was reworked from DPS to Tank.
