There’s a lot of talk surrounding Microsoft and their Xbox games becoming multi-platform, with reports claiming that Gears of War might be coming to PlayStation. If true, it seems like this new initiative from Xbox would be very beneficial to other console owners, though Xbox Series users might feel ripped off.

According to gaming insider Jeff Grubb (via VGC), Microsoft has considered bringing a ton of its properties to other systems, including PlayStation. While we’ve seen proof that Hi-Fi Rush might be on its way to Switch and PlayStation, Grubb thinks that Marcus Fenix and co. aren’t too far behind.

“The other one that I’ve heard that’s definitely under consideration—it doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen but it’s in talks—is Gears of War,” Grubb said.

Back in the old days, the possibility of Gears of War coming to other systems would be zero, but it seems that Microsoft is more than willing to share its toys. We mentioned Hi-Fi Rush but other IPs also being discussed include the upcoming Indiana Jones game and Starfield. This is no longer an impossible feat.

Microsoft has shared their IPs quite a bit already. The first major crossover was with PC, where games like Sunset Overdrive and Killer Instinct can be bought, though that quickly became a norm. However, Microsoft has also brought Cuphead and the Oni games to Switch, showing the company’s willingness to share.

For the most part, Gears of War has only really appeared on Xbox systems, with Gears 5 and Gears Tactics being the only games ported to Steam. With rumours of a Gears collection coming to Xbox Series and PC, we wouldn’t be surprised if this collection ends up on PS5 and maybe even Switch 2.

At the time of writing, fans can play the whole Gears of War series on Xbox and PC. Most of the Gears games aren’t available on Steam, but those with Game Pass should be able to access every entry.
