Final Fantasy XIV has some of the best music in modern gaming, so it’s quite the compliment when the MMORPG’s composer praises something else. Masayoshi Soken, the aforementioned composer, is a huge fan of Alan Wake 2’s Herald of Darkness section, just like everyone else.

Soken spoke with VGC and talked about his love for the whole section in the game. The FFXIV composer enjoyed how players walked into a room while the music video told players where to go. We can’t blame him either, as it’s one of the cooler things we’ve seen in a video game.

"I usually listen to a lot of music, but lately, I haven't been listening to game soundtracks on their own," Soken said. "But to bring up some music I heard recently while playing games that surprised me, I would choose the scene where 'Herald of Darkness' plays in Alan Wake 2. It's out there to have a gun go off while the music video starts playing all around out of nowhere during the gameplay, and I found that interesting. And on top of that, the MV is made interactive. Nothing to say other than, damn – that's cool!"

Alan Wake 2 has great music in general, but the Herald of Darkness scene just does such a great job of being comedic and somewhat dark. The fact that it also recaps some events from the first game is cool too, though gamers should still play that to get a grasp on what’s going on.

Many fans enjoyed the Herald of Darkness sequence as well, to the point that they begged for it to be performed in The Game Awards. Thankfully, the performance happened and most fans enjoyed it. The fact that director Sam Lake was a part of this performance like he was in the game was simply magnificent.
