Fans might be raving about the recently released Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but last year's Final Fantasy 16 is still getting some love from Square Enix with a trailer for the upcoming The Rising Tide DLC, set to come out on April 18.

The trailer dropped on March 22 during the FF16 PAX East panel in which developers from Creative Business Unit III talked at length about the game, including their plan for The Rising Tide, which will tell the story of the mysterious Leviathan Eikon, which was teased in the original game.

This is the second piece of downloadable content for the action RPG, the first being a smaller one named Echoes of the Fallen, released back in December. Unfortunately, The Rising Tide won't feature a new ending as many fans had hoped, with the story taking place right before Clive takes on Ultima towards the end of FF16.

While the majority of Final Fantasy 16's story is heavily inspired by shows like Game of Thrones, with plenty of intrigue, politics, and tensions between nations set in a high fantasy world, the ending divided fans as it ditched all that for a more bizarre conflict involving an alien trying to terraform the planet using protagonist Clive Rosfield as a vessel known as Mythos, capable of harvesting Aether to a degree no one else can.

Players will get to explore a whole new region

In The Rising Tide, Clive, Jill, and the rest of the crew will venture towards the unknown land of Mysidia after receiving a letter from a mysterious person explaining that the Dominant of Leviathan, the lost Eikon of Water, is in need of rescue.

Leviathan has long been one of the most iconic summons in the history of Final Fantasy, and while its exclusion from the main game where fans could enjoy some bombastic set pieces featuring Phoenix, Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Odin, Shiva, and Bahamut, it's nice to see the massive sea beast get a whole DLC dedicated to its might.

Final Fantasy 16 The Rising Tide DLC will be released on April 18 for the PlayStation 5, costing $20. Fans can get a twin-pack with Rising Tide and Echoes of the Fallen for $25.
