Breakdown

  • Dragon's Dogma 2 has been under fire for all the microtransactions it unveiled on launch.
  • A modder has already made a mod that lets you have 99 of The Art of Metamorphosis paid item.
  • You could buy it in-game normally, but now it's just conveniently always available to change your character's appearance.

Dragon's Dogma 2's release has been plagued by all the hate thrown at it due to Capcom's inclusion of microtransactions for various items in the game. It seems players hate this feature so much that there's already a mod bypass this.

Dragon Dogma 2 won't let you change your appearance easily. If you want to make any changes to your character and main pawn, you need to seemingly purchase The Art of Metamorphosis with real money. However, the actual item is available in-game for 500 Rift Crystals.

Regardless, fans don't appreciate how Capcom has dealt with these microtransactions and the modding community was immediately on the case making a mod that gives you 99 of all these items.

The modder, Nexus user SilverEzredes, titled the mod: "Early N' Cheap Art of Metamorphosis". It enables you to purchase the makeover tome for a mere 10 gold compared to the 500RC it costs originally. The item is available with a vendor in Melve, the first major town in Dragon's Dogma 2.

Furthermore, there are no worries about the stocks either, he’s got 99 copies of Art of Metamorphosis for 10 G a piece. The tome can be used at one of the Barbaries in major cities like Vernworth and then selecting the modify appearance option. However, it is some players have noticed that after progressing to the main city of Vernworth, the vendor at Melve can be impossible to find. It's unclear if he relocates or just vanishes.

On top of that, you can't just walk in and buy it with standard gold, but you have to use 500 of a relatively rare currency called Rift Crystals. This currency can be acquired by finding Riftstones and then sending your pawn out to help other players, but it takes a little while to collect 500 of it.

It appears to be a pretty standard system, and it's not a core system being put up for purchase. However, this decision to keep Rift Crystals and the Art of Metamorphosis as DLC purchases is getting Capcom a lot of flak.

While this is just the beginning of Dragon's Dogma 2's modding scene, it's nice to see that the RPG is already being moulded by the fanbase in their preferences. Also, check out what are Pawns in Dragon Dogma 2 and our complete review of the game.
