Despite the Call of Duty community currently focusing on the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Vanguard, a new rumour surrounding the title of the 2022 game has surfaced. Current rumours suggest that the game developed by Infinity Ward will be a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare, one of the most successful entries in the first-person shooter franchise.
According to notable leaker Tom Henderson, Call of Duty 2022 will be titled 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II,' making it the second "Modern Warfare 2" to be released, much to the annoyance of the community that has fond memories of the first title that was released back in 2009.
COD 2022 Title
Leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt but considering the impressive track record of Henderson accurately revealing a wealth of information surrounding Vanguard's release, there could be some substance to CoD 2022 being named Modern Warfare II.
The title is currently known as Project Cortez and with no official information on the title expected to appear until next Summer, there is every possibility of the title changing. On October 7th, the Modern Warfare developer announced that it has launched an all-new studio located in Austin, Texas. The developer now has a total of four development teams based in Austin, Los Angeles, Poland, and Mexico.
In a report published by VGC in September, the Modern Warfare II campaign revolves around US forces battling with Columbian drug cartels which will certainly be an interesting chapter to the existing Modern Warfare storyline.
Modern Warfare 2 2022 Release Date
At this moment in time, it's far too early to say when the Modern Warfare series will be returning but we can expect it to release in Q4 of 2022. In the meantime, the next title arriving is Vanguard, launching on November 5th with an all-new single-player campaign, new Zombies experience, and new multiplayer.
