RTTK Explained

So what exactly is the Road to the Knockouts promotion?

Well, as we've already alluded to, it focuses on the performances of those playing in Europe's elite competitions (and the UEFA Conference League). The Road to the Knockouts is a new promotion, but one which is expected to follow a similar format to the previously featured Road to the Final.

Should it indeed follow that format, it will be a performance-based promotion. That means that, as we see with the Team of the Week, upgrades will be awarded to those who perform to a high standard on the real-life pitch.

Upgrades are expected to be applied to those who qualify for the knockout stages, with higher upgrades for those who top their groups. For reference, here is how the upgrades worked in the FIFA 20 Road to the Final promotion.

We will breakdown the full upgrades process as soon as we know more.

Card Designs

As you will have seen from the loading screen images, EA have drawn up three new card designs for this years promotion.

The UCL cards stick with the traditional blue and purple design, the UEL cards remain orange and black, whilst there is a green and black design for the UEFA Conference League.

All three will land in FIFA simultaneously on Friday.

Road to the Final

Whether the Road to the Knockouts replace the Road to the Final cards, or provide a stop gap throughout the group stages, remains to be seen.

We will know more on Friday when the promotion lands, but for the time being it is only the Road to the Knockouts that have been officially confirmed.
