The Game Awards 2016 Highlights and Winners

The Game Awards streamed live in Los Angeles, California on December 1st to highlight and honor the best in gaming for 2016 as well as give us a taste of what’s to come in 2017. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the award show had several highlights and gave a ton of deserving awards.

The pregame show offered a taste of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Psyonix’s Rocket League announced another new DLC map, Starbase ARC, which will arrive in the December 7th update.

Hideo Kojima was honored with the Industry Icon award and stayed on stage to reveal another breathtaking look at his upcoming creation, Death Stranding.

The Game Awards was a huge night for Blizzard, raking in several wins for Overwatch including GOTY and best eSports title.

  • Best Game Direction: Blizzard (Overwatch)
  • Best Narrative: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Naughty Dog/SIE)
  • Best Art Direction: Inside (Playdead)
  • Best Music/Sound Design: Doom (id Software/Bethesda)
  • Best Performance: Nolan North as Nathan Drake, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
  • Games for Impact: That Dragon, Cancer (Numinous Games)
  • Best Independent Game: Inside (Playdead)
  • Best Mobile/Handheld Game: Pokémon Go (Niantic)
  • Best VR Game: Rez Infinite (Enhance Games)
  • Best Action Game: Doom (id Software/Bethesda)
  • Best Action/Adventure Game: Dishonored 2 (Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks)
  • Best RPG: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine (CD Projekt RED)
  • Best Fighting Game: Street Fighter V (Capcom)
  • Best Strategy Game: Civilization VI (Firaxis Games/2K)
  • Best Family Game: Pokemon Go (Niantic)
  • Best Sports/Racing Game: Forza Horizon 3 (Playground Games/Microsoft Studios)
  • Best Multiplayer Game: Overwatch
  • Most Anticipated Game: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo)
  • Best eSports Game: Overwatch
  • Best eSports Team: Cloud9
  • Best eSports Player: Marcelo "Coldzera" David of SK Gaming
