Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, one of the world’s best known Fortnite streamers, has surprisingly announced through his personal Twitter account that he will be leaving Twitch to stream through Microsoft’s platform, Mixer.
In a follow-up video, Ninja said “I have been holding on to this for quite some time, and I’m just super excited to let everyone know. I’ll be streaming on Mixer full-time now and I’m honestly at a loss for words. I’m freaking out in the best ways. I feel like I’m going to get back to the streaming roots.”
For years, Twitch has dominated the gaming livestream landscape and to see one their most faces leave to stream on another platform is a serious blow. Twitch responded to the move saying "We’ve loved watching Ninja on Twitch over the years and are proud of all that he’s accomplished for himself and his family, and the gaming community. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Who is Ninja?
Before the Fortnite boom, Ninja started off as a competitive player for Halo, developed by 343 Industries (Owned by Microsoft), back in 2009 when he competed at a Halo event at MLG Orlando. With the arrival of Halo:Reach in 2011, he started to make a serious name for himself and a year later, Ninja won his first Halo championship for Halo 4. With the rise of streaming, Ninja announced in 2017 that he was taking a step back from esports to focus more on streaming full-time.
Since then, he has become one of Fortnite's most famous faces recieving sponsorships from the likes of Red Bull as well as being paid significant sums to play other companies' games.
