A National Esports Performance Campus Is Coming to Sunderland


The British Esports Association (BEA) has announced plans to open a National Esports Performance Campus (NEPC) in Sunderland. Stating this'll be a ‘multi-million-pound commitment,’ that's due to open in Summer 2022.

Speaking in a press release, the BEA confirms NEPC will host various courses for esports athletes and other industry related jobs. Reportedly, gamers will have dedicated esports classrooms, performance rooms, streaming booths, and arena space.

Detailing this news further, BEA's chief executive officer, Chester King offered this statement:

“The UK is Europe’s second-biggest video game market and ranked 6th globally – this speaks to the potential of esports which will capitalise on gaming’s popularity, with talented competitors emerging and a growing audience keen to spectate and enjoy esports as a leisure activity. This is a market that we know will explode in the UK and we want to support its growth.

Considering esports' growth over the years, with numerous companies putting big sponsorship money into hosted tournaments, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more countries develop similar campuses. We'll keep you informed as we learn more.
