Apex Legends: X Games 2019 Details, Dates And Schedule As Esports Makes A Return To The Extreme Sports Event

ESPN has announced that after a three year hiatus, esports will once again be hosted at their annual extreme sports event, X Games. Apex Legends, despite being a recent addition to the video game world, has established a strong foot hold within the community. This has sparked interest in the game around the world as well as its development as an esports title.

Fresh off the back of it's latest patch, the game has been escalated to the big leagues with its involvement as the only esport to feature at the X Games for nearly three years. So far Apex Legends has had few opportunities to grow as an esport, one of the more notable events currently on-going is FACE IT Pro Series.

What Is The X Games?

The X Games is an annual extreme sports event hosted, produced and broadcast by ESPN; this event hosts sports such as Skateboarding, Motocross and BMX Freestyle. In the past the X Games has hosted esports events such as the MLG X Games Invitational for Call of Duty and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Twenty of the best teams from North America, Europe and Australia/New Zealand will head to Minneapolis on August 2nd-3rd. They will be competing on Electronic Art’s battle royale, Apex Legends, for the lion’s share of the $150,000.

Earlier this month, ESPN established the EXP brand that will cover all esports competitions held at it’s own events. Alongside Apex Legends at the X Games, ESPN created the College Esports Championship (CEC), a North American collegiate event series that has students compete against one another for scholarships across multiple games.

Competition Schedule And Dates

Sign ups are now open for the online qualifiers taking place on June 29. Five teams will go through to the main event and a further fifteen will be invited. Making up the five that come through the online competition, two will come from North America, two from Europe and one from Australia/New Zealand.

The tournament will be available to watch across a variety of online streaming platforms and the ESPN app. A cut-down highlights show will be broadcast on the 10th August on ESPN2 at 10:00 ET.
