Summer Game Fest 2021's opening day closed out with a new Elden Ring trailer and the Elden Ring release date.

Elden Ring will release on January 21, 2022, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The new Elden Ring trailer finally gave us a detailed look at the game in motion, including a brief glimpse at classes, not unlike Dark Souls, enemies, and a bleak, beautiful world.

As to what Elden Ring is actually about... well, we still don't know.

The trailer follows a hero of unknown origin standing against the powers of darkness in many forms, including dragons, the undead, and more.

It's very Dark Souls, but with George Martin behind the narrative wheel, we're expecting big things from the story.

We might not have long to wait for more Elden Ring either.

Bandai will host an E3 2021 event on June 15 at 5:25 p.m. EST, and while we don't know for sure if Elden Ring will be part of it, we'd be surprised if we didn't see anything else so soon after the long-awaited reveal.
